150 Years of the ITU: Commemorative event in Spain with special focus on the 1932 Plenipotentiary Conference.

The Spanish State Secretariat for Telecommunications and for the Information Society, which is a department of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, together with the Official College and Spanish Association of Telecommunications Engineers, celebrated the 150th Anniversary of the International Telecommunication Union, emphasising the relevance of the 1932 Plenipotentiary Conference of the ITU.

The event was held within the framework of the theme for World Telecommunication and Information Society Day: “Telecommunications/ICT: Drivers of Innovation” and was attended by the highest ranking authorities and  ITU Secretary-General Mr. Houlin Zhao.

On 1932, The Fifth Plenipotentiary Conferences of the International Telegraph Union (ITU) was celebrated in Spain’s capital. The international treaties relative to telecommunications (telegraph, radio-communications and telephony industries) were brought together within a single covenant, which is known today as the ITU.
